The knights of St Columba are re-introducing this quiz which was competed for in the Parish some years ago. The cup was donated to the Knights following the untimely death of Deacon Alistair Anderson.
Alistair was born in the North of England and held a number of managemant positions in the manufacturng industry. Alistair and his wife were pillars of the Rose Green community. He was ordained on the 3rd July 1998 and was appointed to the parish of Our Lady of Sorrows with Slindon. Very sadly he died on the 16th September 1998.
As a member of the Knights of St Columba, we wanted to remember him by creating an annual parish quiz bringing together all areas and organisations of the parish to compete and the winners being presented with the "Alistair Anderson cup". It was first competed for in 1999 and was played for 5 times between 1999 and 2003. One memorable winner was Canon Fogarty and his team. On the theme of "Our journey Together", we, the Knights of St Columba, have decided to resurrect this quiz and to bring us all together in Fun. Also perhaps, to inspire another parishioner to consider taking up the Diaconite, and, to provide an opportunity to help bring the Parish together in friendly competition following the diminution of Pandemic...
The Quiz was attended by 2 family teams, 2 ladies teams and 1 mens team.
Congratulations to the Mens team who took the name of the Cheeky Chappies.
The children were very pleased with their own little quiz and prizes at the interval.
The next World Youth Day, set to take place in Lisbon in 2022, will now be held one year later, in August of 2023.
